This Privacy Policy explains what information the NIE Attendance Bot (the "Service") collects, how it is used, and how it is stored. The Service is operated on a non-commercial basis by an individual developer (the "Operator") and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by The National Institute of Engineering, Mysuru ("NIE") or Meta Platforms, Inc.
The Service is a WhatsApp bot. Users opt in by sending their NIE Parents Portal credentials to the bot, after which the Service logs into the portal on the user's behalf and returns attendance information as a WhatsApp message.
Registration data (phone, name, USN, date of birth, subscription state, daily counters) is stored in a private SQLite database on a server operated by the Operator. The database is not shared with third parties. Communication between your device and WhatsApp is end-to-end encrypted by WhatsApp; communication between WhatsApp's servers and the Service is encrypted in transit (HTTPS).
The Service does not sell, rent, or share personal information with third parties. The only external parties involved in normal operation are:
Your registration record is retained for as long as you continue to use the
Service. You can request deletion at any time by sending an email to
caveragebrain@gmail.com from a
recognizable address, or by messaging the bot with the word
delete (if supported in your version). On deletion, your USN,
date of birth, phone number, name, and usage counters are removed from the
database. Attendance results are not stored, so there is nothing further to
purge.
The Service runs on a private server with restricted access. Credentials are stored in a local SQLite database and used only to authenticate to the NIE Parents Portal. However, no online service can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. You use the Service at your own risk and should consider the sensitivity of sharing your portal credentials before registering.
The Service is intended for college students aged 17 or older. It is not directed at children under 13.
This policy may be updated. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
